Travel tip #5 Travel a bit earlier or later

Freshly showered with a cup of coffee in hand, you plop yourself down at the kitchen table. Otherwise, you would have already been driving by now. But not today: today you are starting at home. No traffic jams, no stress caused by traffic congestion. Just checking your inbox, making a schedule for the day and preparing for a meeting – all that can be done from home. And once everyone else has made their traffic-jam-filled journey, you get into the car and zoom to the office.

Starting at home

This is possible in many office jobs: start from home and then take to the roads once the traffic jam has cleared. This saves a lot of time and helps people who need to be somewhere at a certain time. Together, we are making the roads available for those who need them.

Change of working hours

Another option is to change your working hours, of course. If you’re not a morning person, working from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. can be another good option. A real early bird? Then 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. might be more your thing. Groningen Bereikbaar, together with the business community, is looking at the options for flexible working hours. Small changes can make all the difference: don’t schedule any more meetings before 10 a.m. Hold all meetings online in the morning and afternoon. Together, you will find the best solution for your company.

A different time table

It’s not just companies – but schools too – where we’re looking at starting classes later. This way, students will no longer need to travel during peak times, reducing rush-hour congestion for cars and on buses and trains. And cycle paths will be quieter too.
