We are working to make Groningen accessible for everyone who lives, works, studies and visits here. That is why we coordinate maintenance work on the roads and railways and provide up-to-date information about accessibility. We also encourage new and green ways of travelling and working throughout the region. In doing so, we are on the smart route towards arriving at a sustainable Groningen, together.
COORDINATION OF ROAD AND RAIL CONNECTIONS
Various parties work on the roads and railways in Groningen. Groningen Bereikbaar brings together road operators and infrastructure projects and ensures coordination, so that road and rail connections can be planned in a smart manner. When, after careful coordination and planning, the work commences, Groningen Bereikbaar ensures that motorists are still able to continue their journey as far as possible. We create smart diversions that are indicated along the road. Another asset is the smart adjustment of traffic lights.
UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION ABOUT ACCESSIBILITY
Groningen Bereikbaar provides information about maintenance work, traffic disruptions and travel tips by means such as our website, social media, digital newsletter and in local newspapers. Motorists can view current road closures on the Smart Map. We use information panels along the road to notify road users about accidents, traffic congestion, alternative routes and parking and travel options from the P+R locations.
ENCOURAGING SMART TRAVEL AND WORKING
Groningen Bereikbaar encourages new and green ways of travelling and working, such as cycling, travelling by public transport or by P+R. And working from home or travelling outside peak times more frequently, if possible. By encouraging motorists to leave their cars at home more often, we are improving the accessibility of the city and the region. And it is better for the environment, too.
TOGETHER FOR A SUSTAINABLY ACCESSIBLE GRONINGEN
The power of Groningen Bereikbaar is nestled in our collaboration between companies, organisations and education and government institutions. We have developed a large network of partner companies in the city of Groningen and are expanding our network in the province. Groningen Bereikbaar’s mobility advisors give companies and organisations free advice in relation to smart travel and working and sustainable mobility. This is how we are keeping Groningen sustainably accessible together.
ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY
The business community plays an important role in the Groningen Bereikbaar cooperation organisation. For example, Groningen Bereikbaar has a Business Community Advisory Committee, in which directors of major employers give us advice on our personal title, as well as being ambassadors for the Groningen business community.
